Virtually all the children born in the golden era of TV Globinho watched the famous TV
series Yu-Gi-Oh and probably even got to play a few times with their friends following
the incredibly just rules that are used in the drawing (irony), being so today we will
explain the current rules of the game and also how to play for beginners and advanced.
You will need:
• Yu-Gi-Oh cards (which can easily be purchased online or in specialized stores).
• Dices (some card effects require).
• Markers (they can be almost anything, even small pieces of paper, and are also used
only by a few cards).
• Playmatch (not required but helps a lot mainly at the beginning).
1) The cards:
The Yu-Gi-Oh cards are divided into:
•Monsters (light and dark brown, purple, black, white and light and dark blue cards).
•Spells (green cards).
•Traps (pink cards).
1.1) The monsters:
The monster cards have the colors already mentioned above as well as the information:
attack, defense, type, attribute and some others that vary according to the card, and
the monsters can be:
•Standard:
•They only have attack, defense, type, attribute and number of stars, having no
special effect (little used).
•Effect:
•They have attack, defense, type, attribute, number of stars and effect, being
the effect quoted in the card and can be used according to their requests.
•Ritual:
•They can be normal or of effect (having the same things already mentioned
previously), but they have the differential of only being able to be invoked using
the magic of ritual referring to the monster in question, being necessary the
fulfillment of the requisitions of ritual magic so that the ritual monster is
invoked (in this case it is necessary to have the magic and monster to be invoked at
hand).
•Fusion:
•They can be normal or effect (having the same things already mentioned), but
they have the differential of being only invoked using the polymerization magic or
another of similar effect, in which case the monster to be invoked is initially
located in the extra deck explained below) and its conditions of invocation
(quoted in the monster's letter in question) must be met
•Link:
•They can be normal or of effect (having the same things already mentioned previously
except the number of stars and of the defense), also having the link scale and the link
pointers (same link scale number), also located initially in the extra deck and only
require that their conditions of invocation (cited in the letter in question) be fulfilled
to be invoked.
Image from web (i don't have an example of this type of cards)
•XYZ:
•They can be normal or effect (having the same things already mentioned previously),
also being located initially in the extra deck and needing 2 (or more depending on the card
to be invoked) monsters that already are in the field and that own the same number of the
XYZ monster to be invoked (in the invocation XYZ the monsters used in the invocation are
associated - put together - as XYZ material of the monster in question and can be used in
his effects), is worth mentioning that some XYZ also have invocation conditions be followed.
•Sincho:
•They can be normal or effect (having the same things already mentioned previously),
also being located initially in the extra deck and needing monsters (not having a maximum
number of monsters that can be used but having a minimum number according to the monster to
be invoked) whose sum of the number of stars is equal to the number of stars of the monster
to be invoked, being worth remembering that one of the monsters used must be a turner
(type of monster), and also worth remembering that some synchro also have conditions of
invocation to be fulfilled.
•Pendulum:
•They can be normal or effect (having the same things already mentioned previously),
being able to have besides a monster effect also a magic effect (pendulum effect), also
having a pendulum scale used in pendulum invocations (explained below).
1.2) The Spells:
The spells are the cards with the color already quoted above and have as attribute only
the type and effect of magic, which can be activated in different quotes depending on the
use given to the card (explained below), which can be:
•Normal:
•Only perform the effect quoted in the card.
•Quick effect:
•They perform the effect quoted in the card, but may be used in response to another
card effect or used in the same way as the traps when placed face down in the field
(explained below).
•Field:
•They only perform their effect, but are placed in the field zone and are not removed
from there until another field is activated or some effect takes them out (each player can
only have one field).
•Equipment:
•When they perform their effect they are equipped to a desired monster, but remain in
the zone of magic / trap until the monster is destroyed or the own magic is destroyed by
some effect.
•Ritual:
•Used for the invocation of a ritual monster, but may have other effects (quoted in
the card) besides invocation.
1.3) The traps:
The traps are the cards with the color already mentioned previously, having only their
type and effect, the traps can be placed in the field only with the face down and can be
activated only from the phase of the opponent after its placement, being able to be:
•Normal:
•Only activate its effect.
•Continuous:
•Activate their effect and remain in the field until they are removed by some effect.
2) The playmatch:
The playmatch is where all the game happens being so it is in him that all the cards are
positioned, being divided in:
•Monster zone:
•The location where monsters in general (except those initially located on the extra deck)
are invoked.
•Trap and spell zone
•The Place where spells and traps are placed (face up or down - in case they are
placed face down they can only be used from the opponent's tomb in the case of traps or
quick spells or only from his next turn in case of spells of other types-).
•Link zone:
•The location where the monsters initially located on the extra deck are invoked,
in the field there are two of them, but only one to be used by each player (in case a
monster link is placed in that zone, the areas where their arrows point may also be used
for extra deck monsters).
•Graveyard:
•The place where the already destroyed monsters are placed as well as spells and
traps already used (some effects of both monsters and spells and traps can only be
activated from the graveyard).
•Field zone:
•Location where field spells are placed.
•Deck zone:
•The location where the main deck is placed.
•Extra deck zone:
•The location where the extra deck is placed.
•Pendulum zone:
•the place where the pendulum monsters are placed (the pendulum monsters can be
used as normal monsters or as pendulums in the case of placed in the pendulum zone are
used as scales for the pendulum invocation - explained below - can only use its pendulum
effect , whereas if placed as monsters in the zone of monsters can only activate their
effect of monsters), it is worth mentioning that the monsters placed in that zone when
being destroyed (can only be destroyed by effects but also can not attack), are sent to
the extra deck but face up, unlike any other type of card (the other cards are sent to
the graveyard).
Examples of playmatch full and empty
3) The deck:
Yu-Gi-Oh's main deck usually consists of 40 cards, which may have more (up to 50) or
less (from 30), divided between monsters spells and traps (usually 20 monsters, 10 spells
and 10 traps), since the balance of the number of cards depends very much on the style of
each player, existing even decks only monsters or only traps; in addition to the main deck
there is also the extra deck that is composed of the extra deck monsters (explained above),
not being obligatory, there being also the additional deck that is composed of cards that
can be added to the main in the interval between the matches ( in the case, for example,
of a better than 3), which is also not mandatory.
Example of my deck (first the monsters, spels and traps -main deck- before the extra deck and the side deck)
4) The game:
The game consists in the use of spells, traps and monsters in order to reduce the HP
of the other player to 0, using several tactics for this; initially both players start with
8000 HP and one player shuffles the other's main deck by putting it upside down in the deck
area, after which a 'scissors' stone is performed, and the starting player decides who will
be the first both players buy from the deck a total of 4 cards and the game starts, only
ending when one or both players reach 0 HP or when the main deck of one or both players
ends, there are no more cards to buy, (it is worth noting that in all but the first round,
the player now buys a card).
4.1) The phazes:
The match of Yu-Gi-Oh is divided into the following phases:
•Purchase phase:
•Phase where the player now buys his card.
•Main phase 1:
•Where the player makes his invocations, and uses of magic or trap (paced fast spells
or traps can be used at any stage, including the opponent's phase).
•Damage phase:
•Where the player uses their monsters to attack.
•Main phase 2:
•The player can also perform the invocation of monsters provided that it is a special
invocation (explained below),
also being able to use spells and traps or put them face down
•Standard phase:
•Phase between the rounds of each player (some card effects are activated at this
stage, according to the text of the card).
4.2) The invocations:
Invocations are the means by which the monsters are placed in the field in attack or
defense mode (in the case of defense they must initially be upside down, it being worth
emphasizing that once per turn the player can change the monster from attack to defense
and vice versa), may be for:
•Normal invocation:
•The method by which normal and special monsters that have 1 to 4 stars are
invoked, they are only placed in the field in the monster zone (only one normal
invocation can be made per turn).
•Tribute invocation:
•The method by which standard and special monsters from 5 to 10 stars are
invoked is also a normal invocation, so it has its own limitations, but in this case
it requires tributes (monsters already on the field and sent to the graveyard for the
invocation according to thewill of the player) according to the number of stars
(5 and 6 stars require 1 tribute, 7 and 8 stars require 2 tributes and 9 and 10 stars
require 3 tributes).
•Special invocation:
•Invocation performed by a magic , a trap or even the monster to be summoned
or some other monster already on the field, in which case no tribute is required
regardless of the number of stars and there is no limit to these invocations.
•Fusion invocation:
•It is considered a special invocation, therefore it has no limitations; is
the method by which the fusion monsters are invoked (using monsters already in the
field and the magic polymerization or other similar effect, following the requirements
of the monster to be invoked).
•Link invocation:
•It is considered a special invocation, therefore it has no limitations; is
the method by which link monsters are invoked, you simply meet the requirements of
the card to perform your summoning.
•Synchro invocaton:
•It is considered a special invocation, therefore it has no limitations; is
the method by which the synchro monsters are invoked, requiring a monster turner and
one or more non-turners whose sum of stars equals the number of stars of the synchro
monster to be invoked, also requiringthe length of the card's perform the invocation.
•XYZ invocation:
•It is considered a special invocation, therefore it has no limitations; is
the method by which XYZ monsters are invoked, in which case 2 or more monsters
(according to the monster to be invoked) are required with the same number of monster
stars to be invoked, and the monsters usedin the invocation are not sent to the
graveyard, but rather remains associated with the monster invoked, and are almost always
required to use the effect of the XYZ in question.
•Pendulum invocation:
•It is considered a special invocation, therefore it has no limitations; any monster
in the player's hand (except ritual monsters) can be invoked by this method, in which case
both pendulum zones must be occupied and thus any monster having a number of stars that
enters between the values of the scales of the (eg if you have a pendulum scale of 1 and a
pendulum scale of 8, any monster with 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 stars can be invoked).
•Ritual invocation:
•It is considered a special invocation, therefore it has no limitations; is the method
by which ritual monsters are summoned by having the monster to be summoned and the ritual
magicrelating to it and fulfilling the requirements requested in the spell to perform the
invocation.
4.3) The damage:
Damage is the method used to take HP from the opponent to lower it to 0 and can be
in the following ways:
•Direct attack:
•The player who suffers the attack loses in HP the attack value of the attacking
monster.
•Attack to a monster:
•The player suffers the difference of the attack of the two monsters involved in
the battle in HP, being the monster with smaller attack destroyed and the player who
controls that monster is that it is damaged (it is worth to emphasize that in battles
with monsters in defense mode, the player the attacking monster is destroyed, but if
the attacking monster's defense is greater than the attacking monster's attack, the
attacking player suffers the difference between the attacker's attack and the defender's
defense in HP, not destroying any of the monsters involved).
•Effect:
•In this case the damage is done by cards, not depending on the battle
between monsters.

And our amazing tutorial comes to end, now you just have to train a lot and
quickly you will decorate the rules without even realizing it, thanks for read
and see you the next time.
